The human voice consist of two components. One is fundamental waves that are pitch-sensitive and the other is non pitch-sensitive fixed harmonics. The harmonics components are determined by the vocal cords and by the physical shape of the vocal tract which adds distinctive characteristics to a person's voice and are called formants. All of the other telephone voice changers on the market today are strictly pitch shifters, not addressing the critical formant control component of the human voice. These 'pitch shifters' change formants when they alter pitch, so the voices that are pitched to high or to low sound unnatural.
With the ASV-VC1's pitch slider you can control pitch independently without making formant change while its formant slider works to effectively change the voice characteristics made by the vocal cords and by the shape of the vocal tract which allows it to effectively change a male voice to female, a female voice to male, a child's voice to an adult, and an adult's voice to a child yet still sound completely natural.
